How we know that a visitor came from you
The basic way of identifying a partner works through a special parameter in the link.
It unambiguously determines your text campaign.
A link can look like this, for example:
The parameter ap with the value ABC123 serves as the campaign identifier. Thanks to it we know which affiliate partner brought the visitor in – and who should be credited with the commission.
Clean links without parameters (HTTP Referer)
Besides classic affiliate links, we also allow a partner to be recognised by the referring page – the so-called HTTP referer.
Put simply:
we can tell where the visitor came from.
If, for example, you run the website www.example.com and put an ordinary link on it to https://www.wedos.as/stranka, the system looks at the information about the referring page. If we have this website assigned to your partner account, we automatically pair the visit with you.
Technically it works like this: if we do not find a campaign identification in the URL, we check the HTTP Referer header and compare it with our records.
Why use recognition via HTTP Referer
The main advantage is the naturalness of the link.
Some visitors notice affiliate parameters in the URL and deliberately avoid them. A clean link without parameters looks more trustworthy and has a higher chance of being clicked.
The second advantage concerns search engines. They are able to recognise affiliate links and in some cases may give them less weight. A clean link to the target page prevents this effect – to users and to search engines alike it looks like an ordinary link.
Limitations and combination with classic links
Using clean links also has its limits.
All clicks from a given website are counted into a single text campaign.
With affiliate links with a parameter, on the other hand, you can create several campaigns and track the performance of individual placements precisely – for example a link in the menu, in an article or in the footer.
Both methods can be combined.
If the campaign parameter is given in the link, it always takes precedence over recognition via the HTTP referer.
How to activate this option
Assigning a specific website to a text campaign is subject to our approval.
Not every website is suitable for this method of identification.
After approval, all links from that website to the target page are evaluated as commission links – not just the specifically marked ones.
Which websites we do not accept for HTTP Referer
- websites whose ownership or operation by the partner cannot be verifiably proven
- purely discussion and community websites where the content and the links are created by users, not by the operator
We assess each case individually. If you are interested in this option, write to us at the email: affiliate@wedos.com.
If you run into a problem or are not sure which way of promotion is ideal for you, you can use the public discussion forum or contact us directly at the email affiliate@wedos.com.
Affiliate marketing is not about hiding tricks – it is about smart setup, trust and tools that make sense in the long run.
